Terms of Service

Last updated: April 18, 2026

Plain language: Shiori is a local-first app. You own your data, we don't collect anything, and we're not liable if a feed goes down or an AI pick isn't great. That's the gist.

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Shiori ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of service

Shiori is a feed reader application for macOS and iOS that allows you to subscribe to RSS, Atom, and JSON feeds, YouTube channels, podcasts, and newsletters. The App operates locally on your device — it does not require an account and does not transmit data to our servers.

3. Your data

All data created and stored by Shiori — including your feed subscriptions, articles, reading history, statistics, and preferences — resides on your device. You retain full ownership and control over this data. We do not have access to it.

You are responsible for backing up your data. Uninstalling the App will remove all locally stored data.

4. Third-party services

Shiori connects to third-party services at your direction:

We do not control these third-party services and accept no liability for their operation, content, or data practices.

5. Intellectual property

Shiori, including its design, code, and branding, is the intellectual property of Tim Sedov. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal purposes in accordance with these Terms.

Content you access through feeds is owned by the respective publishers. Shiori merely displays this content for your personal reading convenience.

6. AI features

Shiori's AI-powered features (Top Picks, topic grouping, article ranking) rely on third-party language models accessed through OpenRouter. These features are provided on a best-effort basis. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, relevance, or quality of AI-generated recommendations or summaries.

You supply your own API key and choose which model to use. API costs are between you and OpenRouter.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

8. Disclaimer of warranties

Shiori is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Feed availability depends on third-party publishers and is outside our control.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law (including Estonian and EU law), Tim Sedov shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or interruption of service.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Estonia and applicable European Union regulations. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tallinn, Estonia.
