Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 18, 2026
The short version: Shiori does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data. There are no analytics, no tracking, no telemetry. Your reading stays on your device.
Who we are
Shiori is developed by Tim Sedov, an independent developer based in Tallinn, Estonia. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us at shiori@timsedov.com.
Data we collect
None. Shiori does not collect any personal information, usage data, or analytics of any kind. Specifically:
- No analytics or tracking scripts
- No crash reporting or telemetry
- No user accounts or registration
- No cookies on this website
- No data is sent to our servers — we don't have any
Data stored on your device
Shiori stores all data locally on your device. This includes:
- Feed subscriptions — the RSS, YouTube, podcast, and newsletter feeds you add
- Articles — fetched content and cached HTML for offline reading
- Reading state — read/unread status, stars, bookmarks, archive state
- Preferences — your app settings, layout choices, and tags
- Reading statistics — article counts, reading time, and streaks, calculated entirely on-device
This data is stored in your app's local storage directory and is never transmitted to us or any third party. You can delete all of it at any time by removing the app.
Third-party services
Shiori connects to the following external services only when you initiate the action:
- RSS/Atom/JSON feed servers — to fetch articles from feeds you subscribe to. These requests go directly to the feed publisher's server.
- OpenRouter API (optional) — if you choose to use AI Top Picks, your article titles and descriptions are sent to the OpenRouter API using your own API key. We never see or store your key. Refer to OpenRouter's privacy policy for how they handle data.
- Google Favicon Service — to fetch website icons for your feeds. Only the domain name is sent.
No data is shared with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.
Obsidian integration
When you save an article to Obsidian, the content is written directly to your local Obsidian vault folder. No data leaves your device — the integration is entirely file-based.
Children's privacy
Shiori does not collect data from anyone, including children. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no data transmission.
Your rights under GDPR
As we are based in the European Union (Estonia) and subject to the General Data Protection Regulation, we want to be clear: since we do not collect or process any personal data, there is nothing to access, correct, delete, or port. You are in full control of your data at all times — it lives on your device and nowhere else.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Given that our approach is to collect no data at all, we don't anticipate significant changes.
